This time we are going to ride the military (gravel) roads between the old forts in the western alps.
Distance to our basecamp is 1600 km, so we are taking the bikes on trailers to avoid wearing down the new knobby tyres.

Where the gravel roads start …
There is a toll booth where you pay 5 EUR to ride up to Col de Sommellier.
Col de Sommelier …
Just above 3000 meters.
This is one of the very few places in the alps where you can take a motorcycle up to 3000 meters altitude. (Dont try to ride this road on a heavy street bike)
