I was searching for a lighter off-road capable bike, but there was no obvious solution that met my requirements.

I’m not a hardcore off-road rider that will jump canyons or climb certical surfaces, but I like to leave the tarmac once in a while and ride gravel and forrest roads.

But even my small bike will have to be comfortable enough to cover long road distances Most small off-road motorcycles are basically moto-cross bikes that are able to ride tarmac when they have to, and comfort is not a priority.

All bikes are a compromise and I had a hard time finding the right bike for my needs – until I stumbled over the Kawasaki Versys-X 300.

– 40 hp is much better on long distance touring than the usual 25-30 hp found in the 250-300 cc class

– Great rider comfort for my 187 cm frame

– sufficient off-road capabilities for my needs

– 175 kg kerb weight, and low center of gravity.

– 17 liter tank gives +400 km fuel range.

I found a 2018 model with only 6800 kms at a reasonable price, and it is a great little bike. Much better than the specs would suggest.
