This 1898 bike have one crank, one connecting rod, but two cylinders stacked in a tower.
This means that you have a piston rod connecting the two pistons, and that the lower combustion chamber wil have a permant and very hot piston rod right in the center.
I can think of several reasons why the design never caught on 🙂
