Why ?

By |2009-01-25T17:17:58+01:00January 25th, 2009|14 Countries - 7 days|

I had this idea about a “different” bike tour in my head for a few years.

The basic concept was to go through 14 countries in one week = an average of two countries per day.

Now that the eastern countries have opened up, it should be possible to do: From Denmark south through the east European countries, turn right in Croatia, go west across the Alps, and turn right again in France – seems possible when looking at the map 🙂

This trip is not about lazy days by the Pool, or cultural museums or fancy restaurents – this is about intense motorcycle riding.

The Route

I tried to avoid too much hichway, and make the tour go through as many interesting areas as possible.

Mountain day routes are shorter, because riding in the mountains takes lot of time.

The red dots in the maps are just waypoints to make the GPS chose the desired route.

The countries I’m going through are:

  • Germany
  • Poland
  • Chech Republic
  • Slovakia
  • Hungary
  • Østrig
  • Croatia
  • Slovenia
  • Italy
  • Schwizerland
  • Liechtenstein
  • France
  • Luxembourg
  • Belgium
  • Holland

Liechtenstein just made it to the list, so the number of foreign countries to visit are now 15.

Day 1 – 865 km

Day 2 – 830 km

Day 3 – 439 km

Day 4 – 389 km

Day 5 – 564 km

Day 6 – 537 km

Day 7 – 706 km

The Tour bike !

I'm going to use my Moto Guzzi Sport 1100i for the tour around Europe.

It's probably not the ideal touring bike, but it's fast and stable, and what's available 🙂

Day 1 – My Chech Buddy

By |2009-05-10T19:57:21+02:00May 10th, 2009|14 Countries - 7 days|

The friendly looking guy in the picture is my new Chech buddy. He was driving considerably faster than most Harley riders, and by coincidence we we’re teaming up for aprox. 30 km.

Suddenly he signaled to me to pull over, and he told me (he was able to speak a few words in German) that his wife had given birth to their daughter earlier the same day, and he showed me a picture of her on his phone. The child was 3400 grams, and 49 cm.

I never got to know the name of my new friend 🙂

Day 1 – I’m hungry now

That's it – I've done 924 km's today, more than half of them on nice (bumpy) country roads, so I'm a bit worn out.

The menu is stuffed port with Rösti potatoes. All for USD 10 including a large beer.
